Sturmtiger was originally formed as a studio project by VJ and JS in Denmark in 2003, releasing a self-titled 10” picture vinyl on Third Attackwave Productions a year later. The band was named after the Sturmtiger, a devastating assault gun on the Tiger I chassis used in WWII for annihilating fortifications with its 380 mm rocket-propelled naval mortar.
After relocating to London in 2007, a new lineup was assembled to record the Tank Attack 7”, which was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world in 2009.
Following several offers of live gigs around Europe, the decision was made to assemble a full lineup and perform live, with PB on bass and vocals, BL on drums and the band’s founder VJ on guitars.
The Atomic Hammer MCD was released by underground US label Old Cemetery Records in 2012 as the first work with a full live lineup. This was the band’s statement of intent, where the band’s lethal brand of martial death metal finally crystallized into the beginning of the form it has reached today.
In 2014, the time came to finally release a full-length recording, which coincided with the 100 year anniversary of the Great War. Black Plague Records released the CD version of World at War 2014-2018, with Purity Through Fire releasing it as a split vinyl LP with Minenwerfer. This work attracted many more supporters to the band with its sonic representation of the horrors and honour of warfare.
Killer live assaults followed throughout the UK and Europe, alongside greats such as Goatpenis, Vulcano, Sodomizer and Aura Noir, raising the band’s craft to ever greater degrees of intensity. SB joined the band on bass, with PB moving to vocals only to make the music as intense and twisted as possible.
It is now 2023, and 20 years have passed since the initial formation of the band in Denmark. The Transcendent Warfare album represents the quintessence of martial death metal that the band wanted to achieve in its many years of existence. The album is drenched with the atmosphere of death and violence, conveying the philosophy of war, conquest and the sacrifice of countless lives in its spiritual and instinctive aspects. Alea iacta est!
