Orphaned Land
Futurum Club- Prague, Czech Republic. 20/09/2024
After a four-year break from the European stages, Orphaned Land is presently on tour to celebrate their 30th anniversary, including a stop in Prague at the Futurum Club in the heart of the Czech capital.
The tour package also includes, Nest of Plagues from Hungary, Lone Survivors from France and Science of Disorder from Switzerland. A very interesting and diverse package as every band delivered a good warm up before the Israeli main course.
Nest of Plagues:
A very interesting deathcore proposal that got a lot of good response from the crowd that was getting bigger and bigger by the hour. From their lyrics referring to mental health or their rendition of Madonna’s Like a Prayer, their stage energy and presence conveyed a great vibe. However, between their vocalist's charisma and enthusiasm and their Borat swimming costume, which the drummer opted to wear to the gig, Nest of Plagues not just deliver a good warm up, but also a good impression among the audience.
Lone Survivors:
This French quintet delighted the Futurum audience as their mix between metalcore, progressive and djent reminded me of bandslike Meshuggah, After the Burial, or Protest The Hero. The most surprising and amazing thing about Lone Survivors was the potential of their vocalist who definitely dropped some jaws around the venue (mine, included), great technique and powerful projection. This band was really good and their production and deliverance ripped a couple “you got a new fan” from the Czech mesmerized audience.
Science of Disorder:
The band Science of Disorder exemplified organized aggressiveness, turning heads and banging others. Their style is a cross between Slayer and At the Gates, with incredibly strong rhythms and fast riffs accompanied by an ordered and forceful set of vocals. Their stage demeanor was rough, with their vocalist like Gary Meskil of Pro-Pain and their guitarist resembling a current Kerry King (without shades), a band who provided a melo death/old school metal attitude before the headliner.
Orphaned Land
After 30 years in the metal trenches on Israel, Orphaned Land was discovered by many thanks to the documentary Global Metal by Banger Films (2007), from there the band became more recognized around the world not just by the uniqueness of their music which merges middle eastern traditional music and progressive metal, but also for their philosophy which revolves around the ideas of a unified Arab and Hebrew communities and the end of the senseless and bloodthirsty conflict.
Orphaned Land has always been an ambassador of peace and coexistence throughout their music and their lyrics. This time around it wasn’t any different and I do think it is more necessary than ever to go to their shows and support their cause.
Their show last night in Prague can only be described as a metal demonstration of peace and union. With people from different backgrounds among the crowd (Tunisia, Morocco, Israel, Iran and more) we all sang, danced, clapped and moved to the music from this incredible and talented metal band.
Their show was a trip across their discography with well-knownanthems like Sapari, The Simple Man, All Is One or Norra El Norra. To very specific songs like; Ornaments of Gold or the beautiful rendition of In Thy Never-ending Way to the sing along El Meod Na’ala which put the whole club to sing along vocalist Kobi Farhi.
This whole package tour it ‘definitely a rollercoaster of metal tunes from different genres that make up for an amazing evening wherever they are going around Europe. The message of Orphaned Land is clear, even though the situation in their region has been as tense and violent as ever, they are still hopeful that someday arms will be lay down and hate, division and violence will cease and instead coexistence and peace will be found.
So, if you have the chance to check out this tour when it comes to your city do not hesitate on going for a chance to chant, sing, jump and support the idea that at the end of the day, at the end of everything. All Is One.
