Neverlight Horizon is a Belgian death metal band formed in 1999 and currently featuring Julien Nicolet (drums), Laurent Streel (guitar), Xavier Toulemonde (guitar), Simon Pailhe (bass) and Aubry André (vocals).
Neverlight Horizon released their first demo, "The Awekening", in 2000. The second demo, entitled "Perfection In Murder's Art", was released in 2002 and re-released by French label Deadsun Records in 2003 as "God Of Suffering" (EP).
Their debut album, "Dehumanized", was released two years later (2005) on their own.
In 2007, the album "No Heaven...Only Torment" was released on the Belgian label Shiver Records.
7 years later, the EP "Eternal Scream Of Hate" (2014) was released via Belgian label Rotten To The Core and Sevared Records (USA).
The band's third album was released in 2016 on French label Great Dane Record under the name "Dead God Effigies".
Neverlight Horizon just released “WALXAZ” (4-tracks EP) while awaiting the fourth album!
Over the years, the band has undergone several line-up changes and has shared the stage with many local and international bands in countries such as Belgium, France, Switzerland, and Germany.
We all wanted to make our upcoming record a bit different than the previous ones. We chose a very specific lyrical theme for this one : old and scary legends that were once told in the region we actually live in (Wallonia - southern Belgium). For instance:
- "the One with the hooks" is about an evil creature with hooks instead his hands, living deep in the river... His purpose was to hook lost wanderers and take them back into the river so he could kill them and eat their souls.
- "Bellem" was an old shepard and sorcerer, who was actually pretty nice with people as long as they were respectful with him. He used to put spells on people laughing at him (so people would die due to disease, hunger, etc). He looked like an old man, walking with a cane. The legend also says that he could make red wine flow out of its cane so he could have a drink with respectful and kind people (which is pretty nice, I admit).
- "Among The Caves" tells the story of a cave that supposedly was a gate to hell. People reported witches performing their dark rituals around the cave entrance. Since then, this place is considered wicked and unsafe.
- "Mist and Darkness"... This one is about an evil spirit that could appear in the shape of an old man, as a dog, or as a very thick mist. Its purpose was to get people lost, to get them distracted so they'd eventually lose their way until they got close to the river (so they could be taken by "the one with the hooks")!
We wanted our artwork to look like a very dense and scary forest - we used to have a lot of those in our areas.
"WALXAZ" is the first known name German people gave to the people who were living in our area, which is now called "Wallonie" (or Wallonia in English).
