Interview with the band Neckscars

Interview with the band Neckscars

Neckscars got together in 2018. The band consists of Will Romeo, Justin Parish, Colin Harte, and a rotating drummer. What does a rotating drummer mean, but it's different every time. The first album, Sell The Heart Records, will be released in 2021. The second one will be released at the end of 2025, called Unhinged, and we'll get to that.
Alan – Hi guys. I'm listening to the record right now, so we'll go over everything, and hopefully we won't forget anything.
Will - Great!

Alan – How did you get together in the beginning? From an ad in the New-York Daily Times?
Will - We did a band  years ago called Gameday Regulars.  We added Craig Sala on drums for the initial lineup and started Neckscars.

Alan – A rotating drummer. Yes, that's a problem with quite a few bands. How many drummers have been in the band? And who is the current drummer?
Will - Currently on Drummer  # 4, but we really love him !

Alan – Where did you record the album? Where did they do the mastering? And did anyone help you with the album? Plus a supplementary question. On this latest album released recently, who played the drums?
Will - We recorded the record at Nada Recording in Montgomery, NY with John Naclerio and Sean Paul Pillsworth.  We had some additional musicians help make Unhinged including Cody Nilsen on pedal steel, Maya Shanker on guest vocals, and Bobbie Edge on backup vocals. Sean Paul took care of drum duties.

Alan – Just by the way. Don’t you want to make a song about finding drummers? It could be interesting and funny.
Will -  We did  a track titled “unhinged” off a sell the heart 7 way split .

Alan – We haven’t told our readers what style you actually play yet. Well, melodic punk that sometimes comes into melodic hardcore. But that’s an understatement. Because I also hear traces of emo rock and in two songs, metal rock. Write everything.
Will - I think we just identify as a punk / post hardcore band.

Alan – The first and second albums were released both in the USA and in Europe. By whom? And how did you get to David?
Will - Sell the heart records in the USA and we connected with David through our good friend Craig Cirinelli.

Alan – If we were to analyze the songs. What are they about, both the lyrics and the music?
Tiers - Working and getting nowhere.
Manor Mooch - Letting people down.
Passive Aggressive Pickups - Christian nationalists destroying america.
Dancing In The Stars - My favorite bar in the bronx.
Funny How - Getting arrested in a black out.
Burn Me Into Nothing - How some things can't work.
Cal Ripken Current - Starting a punk band at 40.
Dual Roads - Making nothing of your life.
Numb - Firing my therapist.
Cutting The Line (At Fest) - Annoying scene kids.
Song You Used To Know - Starting over.
Look Up, You’re Good - Our  friend Jym Parella.

Alan – How is it for you playing in Europe, since you’re already released on Engineer Records?
Will - Never been.

Alan – Our readers are from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Do you know these two countries?
Will - Yes we love Pills Urquell!

Alan – And do you know any bands from the Czech Republic or Slovakia? They don’t even have to be punk.
Will - Sadly no.

Alan – How are you doing in the US with touring? This will probably be a bit of a problem, since you were constantly changing drummers.
Will - We manage to play consistently despite the lineup changes.

Alan – You still have some records. Where have you been? Who have you played with? And the best memory of a concert or festival, and why?
Will - The Fest in FL is always fun since all our friends are usually in attendance.

Alan – Do you have any funny experiences from recording the album, or video clips, or from touring?
Will - The edibles and IPA’s hit hard.

Alan – How did the audience receive your new album?
Will - We are grateful for all the positive reviews.

Alan – Back to the album. Do you have guests on it? Who are you there? On which songs? Why did you choose them? Any special features for that?
Will - Joseph Grillo from Her Heads On Fire / Garrison did guest vocals  Funny How ?.

Alan – So, how are you currently playing? And what else are you preparing for the album? A tour of the West Coast? A trip to Kuwait?
Will - No plans for 2026 as of yet, but sorting out some regional stuff.

Alan – I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can hold out and that you'll get to play a few festivals in Europe in 2026. The playing here isn't bad.
Will -  We definitely want to come to EU / UK in 2027!

Alan – Thanks for the interview, and good luck. We’ll be in touch.
Will - thank you!
