interview with Sector 5
Sector 5 from Germany plays pop rock combined with other musical influences. They are not that well-known group in the Czech Republic yet, no less they already have several performances theyn have done, so we and maybe they too are grateful for this opportunity to play outside their homeland. All this was committed by Klaus Stracke and Mgr. Dasa Míčková. Dasha is great.
Alan - Hey guys, it's been over a year since we last spoke.
Sami - Hey Alan, yeah it’s been a while. It’s good to be back!
Alan – What's new with the band since the last time we talked together?
Sami - There’s been some developments. Our brother Onno has rejoined the band and we’re in the process of releasing our debut album! (For those who don’t know us that well, our singer Mika, our drummer Sami and our guitarist Onno are all brothers.)
Alan – You were to Bohemia and Moravia. When and where did you play in Moravia?
Sami - We played at Základni skola Pod Dubíčkem and at Restaurace U Hanuša on the 21st of June and a small show of our own in Uherské Hradiště on the 23rd. We were supposed to play on the 22nd but unfortunately the show was cancelled due to the weather.
Alan – Who arranged this smaller and I hope interesting tour for you? Klaus? Did you not know Dása before?
Sami - We met Dása the day we arrived in the Czech Republic. Super friendly and wholesome woman We have to thank Klaus for the cool tour! We met a lot of really nice people and overall had a great time, couldn’t have asked for anything better!

Alan – The performance was varied. You played at the children's school, but you also had classic concerts. Can you give us a little more detail about it all?
Sami - Of course! When we played at the school, I believe it was for a lot of the students from this and also neighbouring school. We didn’t know what to expect but people were dancing and having fun so that was definitely a highlight. The “normal” concerts were also really fun but one evening it started to storm really badly and we all got wet.
Alan - How did you feel about it? I think you haven't had these kinds of performances yet, or am I wrong?
Sami - Usually when we play in this setup (which was more stripped back / acoustic) it’s for private shows or when we go busking. We prefer our full setup with drums and amplification but these acoustic shows have a special place in our heart since the Czech Republic.
Alan – In your soul, in your heart, what have you brought back from these places?
Sami - That music has a massive value. From what we could perceive, the shows were very special for the audience (especially at the school) and that was another reminder for us what music is really about.
Alan - You've been playing for a long time now and somehow I still don't know the date of the fulllength regular album. So when will it be?
Sami - You’re asking at the right time now! As mentioned, we’re working on our debut album which we will release next year. We don’t have an exact date yet but it will definitely happen!
Alan – What's your musical direction, are you still the same or have you dropped hip hop?
Sami - Yeah, we pretty much dropped most hip hop elements haha! We decided to go back to our roots for the first album since our music background started in the rock and grunge scene of the 90’s.
Alan - In general, any interesting concerts? In Germany, in Berlin? On the street in front of the church? Or others?
Sami - We’re planning some shows in Berlin and also other places (also with Klaus) and we’ll have to keep you updated on that once things begin to take a little more shape.

Alan – We recently highlighted your achievements. In the last year, where have you been? What successes have you had?
Sami - Well, we won the “Welcome to Europe” song contest last year and also the “German Rock & Pop Prize” for our new song “Ghosts”. Since then we were on tour with the Eurovision stars Joker Out and even played in South Africa and Canada for showcase festivals. The video for our new song “Ghosts” also received some music video awards from the “International Music Video Awards” and the “Europe Music Video Awards”. There’s some really cool stuff happening and we’re very grateful for it!
Alan - I won't forgive myself, as always. Funny concerting experiences in the last year?
Sami - Something funny (that was also not really funny at the same time) was that someone collapsed in the first row at one of our shows. But instead of panicking, he just wanted to continue listening to the show lying on the ground and encouraged us to continue playing. Some help came at some point and carried him out of there but his overly enthusiastic approach kind of stuck with us.
Alan – What about next year, will you be heading to Bohemia and Moravia again?
Sami - We’ll have to check that with Klaus but we really hope so!
Alan – Thanks for the interview and we look forward to 2025.
Sami - Thanks for having us! We’re looking forward to 2025 as well!
