Interview with Brunhilde
Brunhilde has been on the scene since 2013. They have 5 full-length albums under their belt. In July 2025, they will release a new album called In Love Yours Hate, which will be released on all digital platforms, plus LP, CD, and cassette. If you like this band as much as I do, you will find their unbridled beauty and individuality.
Alan – Hi Caro + Kurt. We haven't spoken for over a year. If I don't count the short dm messages.
Brunhilde – Hey Alan, thx a lot for your message! Yes we had our last interview 12 month ago! In the meantime there was a lot of new. Our new Album Release, Entry into the top 100 Charts, Touring, Festivals,…..
Alan – We have a new album here, In Love Yours Hate. How are you satisfied with it? And again, did you do the whole album yourself, Kurt? Or did someone help you now?
Kurt – This album is a new milestone in Brunhilde's band history. Caro and I worked on it for over a year and, together with our new producer Eike Freese, we've ultimately created a fantastic album for us! Marisa Gruna on bass and Bastian Emig on drums added the “icing on the cake”
Alan – So was the album released in the first edition, like on every carrier?
Brunhilde - Yes
Alan - In Love Yours Hate has only been out for a short time. Do you have any feedback on them yet? I had the chance to read a little bit in German zines.
Brunhilde – All the relevant magazines mostly gave us very positive reviews, which was very satisfying. Our fans also gave us excellent feedback on the new songs live. It's always great to see how the songs are received by the audience and to feel that special "kick."
Alan – Last year (2024), you played in Wacken. On which stage? At what time? And what was it like? I only had the chance to see the recording.
Brunhilde – We played the Wasteland Stage at Wacken Festival in 2023 at around 6:00 PM, and it was a really cool show! Many of our fans still talk to us about it today! We hope to play Wacken again in 2026. However, we also love playing smaller festivals (Wir leben laut, Rock am Berg, Sinner Rock, etc.) where there's much less commercialism and the promoters put a lot of heart and soul into it.
Alan – Last year, you also did a pretty big tour with the band J.B.O., how did it go with them?
Brunhilde - We had a really good experience on this tour. At first, we were a little worried that the traditional J.B.O. cover music crowd wouldn't really connect with BRUNHILDE, but quite the opposite was true! After the third song, we were able to win over the J.B.O. audience. There were even some who literally followed us and stood as close to the stage as possible at several subsequent shows. Of course, everyone was wearing BRUNHILDE merchandise! Almost all 40 shows were sold out, which gave us a large additional fan base.
Alan – We know that J.B.O. are big fun people. Did you have any fights with them?
Brunhilde - We're a big family, we sometimes share the technical side, and we have a lot of fun together. We even helped out when the showmen at J.B.O. couldn't make it, which was really funny. J.B.O. also recorded their new album in our studio. Wolfram, the drummer of J.B.O., also helped us out on drums at a festival in Bremen last year..., we are good friends!
Alan – Between us. Do you think that touring with J.B.O. and playing in Wacken moved you forward? I've been following you for a long time, and I see quite a big progress in the last year.
Brunhilde – Yes of course! Playing in front of a large crowd is always a positive way to generate a large fan base! Almost all of J.B.O.'s shows were sold out. Of course, there are also many, many people at Wacken that you can reach... We also had two shows together with "Subway to Sally," which brought us a lot of new fans.
Alan – You also started releasing music videos. Thumbs up. Will you continue this?
Brunhilde - Yes! Videos are incredibly important! We're constantly producing new videos. We've produced five awesome videos for the new album "In Love Yours Hate." e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aRfbNWg0JM&list=RD7aRfbNWg0JM&index=1
Alan – Could you give us some brief information about the songs? Regarding the lyrics and music?
In love yours hate -
A little outburst from me about today’s social media game between generations — and the anonymous, cowardly behavior that comes with it. Hypocrisy and laziness included. :)
Music:
Dark Metal/Punk/Rock
Are you blind -
A sharp, confrontational message calling out ignorance—emotional, social, and political. This one digs deeper. It’s meant to provoke, to challenge, and yes, to offend. That’s exactly the point.
Music:
Punchy alt-rock with gritty guitars and a rebellious edge.
Gossip Girl -
Gossip Girl is inspired by someone I once crossed paths with — and a painful reminder that, unfortunately, not all women support each other. This one’s for all the girls out there: stop stabbing each other in the back.
Music:
Fast, punchy punk with a catchy hook and high fun factor.
Halali - Named after the traditional German hunting call, this track metaphorically explores power dynamics and the thrill of the chase. The Chase is better than the catch.- Followed by trumpet sound.
Music: Dramatic and cinematic, with orchestral touches and electronic guitar tension.
Running away - A raw expression of the urge to escape — from a place, a person, or sometimes even from yourself. Sometimes we run because we’re ashamed or because we’ve done something that doesn’t fit society’s mold. But as long as you’re not hurting anyone else, own who you are and what you feel.
Music:
Dark, moody guitars with a chorus that sticks in your head — serious earworm potential.
Souls unchained - An emotional outburst of anger, pain, and self-liberation. The narrator confronts a toxic relationship, questioning their role in someone else’s suffering. It’s about betrayal, identity, and finally letting go.
Music: Dark alternative rock with post-grunge energy.
Heavy guitars, driving bass, and pounding drums. The verses are tense and brooding, while the chorus hits hard with emotional intensity and serious earworm potential.
Go with the flow -
A liberation anthem about breaking free from inner fears, past trauma, and the weight of expectations. It’s about reclaiming your strength and owning your journey.
Music:
Atmospheric and deeply emotive — with a powerful bassline and heavy drums that drive the rhythm and make it impossible not to move with it.
Wait - I speak from a place between life and death. I’m still here — as a shadow, a memory, a part of you. Even though I can’t breathe, I stay. As long as you’re here, I wait — silent but present. It’s about love, loss, and the struggle to let go.
Music: Dark and emotional. Slow, heavy rhythms carried by melancholic guitars and an intense atmosphere. The song builds with each line, almost hypnotic — a sound caught between pain and hope.
Surface - Struggling beneath an overwhelming surface, caught between letting go and holding on. Themes of doubt, emotional turmoil, and the search for clarity run throughout, with water and rain imagery symbolizing inner conflict.
Music:Atmospheric and intense, with dark guitars and flowing rhythms that mirror the song’s emotional depth. The chorus brings a powerful, cathartic release.
Hit and run - I confront the pain and betrayal caused by someone close to me. I demand accountability and apologies for lies, hurt, and broken trust. It’s about lost innocence, manipulation, and my own liberation — rejecting conformity and learning to live without you.
Music:Aggressive and raw, with punk and alternative rock energy and emotionally charged vocals. The sound matches my fierce, unapologetic spirit.
Head over heals - I’m caught between fear and freedom, struggling to save myself and fight my inner demons. Torn between light and dark, I face my pain head-on, trying to regain control and stand tall. The song is about survival, self-empowerment, and finding truth through struggle.
Music: Energetic alternative rock with powerful rhythms and soaring melodies. The sound mixes intensity and hope, matching the fight and resilience in the lyrics.
Who the fuck - I’m confronting someone toxic who’s wreaking havoc on my life. Furious and fed up, I challenge their arrogance and destructive behavior. It’s raw anger and defiance, calling out lies, pain, and manipulation with no filter. This song is also about a real person :)
Music: Hard-hitting, aggressive rock with a punk attitude. Fast-paced guitars and intense vocals drive the rebellious, no-nonsense vibe of the song.

Alan – A lot has happened in that year. New costumes? New choreography? New acquaintances?
Brunhilde - Yes, Our new album entered the Top 100 charts at number 62, which is a huge success for us.
We've had a permanent lineup on bass (Marisa Gruna) and drums (Jannis Reiher) for two years now. We also attach great importance to our stage wardrobe, choreography especially Caro and Marisa. We always want to show our audience the best. We also have a permanent technical crew and tour management, which makes touring much easier and protects our energy resources. Starting in fall 2025, we'll also have a new stage setup, which is also extremely important for always delivering the best show.
Alan – This year, it looks like you probably won't be able to go to the Czech Republic or Slovakia, too bad. What about next year?
Brunhilde - Our booking agency is Extratours, which primarily covers Germany. We also have good connections to the US, where we might have a few shows coming up. Klaus Stracke is our contact in the Czech Republic, where I hope to get a few shows as soon as possible. Especially now that our album landed at number 62 in the Top 100.
Alan – Did I forget to ask something? If so, please write it here.
Brunhilde - We think everything that is important has been said.
Alan – Thanks for the interview. Hang in there and keep doing what you do, you're doing it well. Our readers can learn everything else from the radio interview we're planning.
Brunhilde – Thx a lot for your strong support! I would be very happy to play in the Czech Republic as soon as possible... and to have a beer with you backstage!
