Interview with Ákos from Firkin
Firkin was formed in 2008 as a fun band that wanted to play sporadically and for fun, combined with theatrical comedy and funny poems in the form of lyrics. Thank God it didn't stop there.
Alan – Hi Ákos – what's new with you in the year since we last talked? Well, it's been a year and a half, to be exact.
Ákos - Hello Alan! It's hard to decide where to start. 2024 It was a very exciting year and I see 2025 no different. In recent times, we have focused mainly on Hungarian fans because it has not been published in Hungarian for a very long time.
But that does not mean that we have neglected English appearances! Everyone thinks for the first time in their mother tongue and then translates it. We have previously worked this way, so our 2024 Hungarian appearances can be considered a kind of pre-work for the international scene.
Alan – What's new with the band? Are you still playing punk folk with occasional metal folk? Or have you changed it and are playing metal folk, and occasional punk folk?
Ákos - We try to balance both. And sometimes we get out! We missed a song from our Hungarian -language Rumini album. Not by chance! We are intended for adults and we try to publish English in the fall of 2025. It was the song of the dragon, in the musical we wrote. A techno - folk metal - dragon! Ha-ha
Alan – Are you creating material for a new album? The last one is a little over a year old, so there's no rush. Rather, what's coming up this year around Firkin? A video, a tour of Europe?
Ákos - I think I answered this question before! Yes. We are constantly working, collecting melodies, lyrics, ideas. We usually do so when enough material has gathered, we'll be a few months and write the songs. Now we are a little struggling with ourselves about the nature of the album. This is probably a secret that I shouldn't betray, but it may not be just a single album;)

Alan – I saw that you don't have any Czech Republic or Slovakia planned this year. Where can we see you from Slovakia, or even from the Czech Republic?
Ákos - It is worth watching the concert calendar as the dates are constantly coming. We are not sure we will not meet this year! We have been invited from Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and we will have several concerts in Hungary! Follow our Instagram page, we'll be sure to write about them :)
Alan – Are there any interesting things about the band since we haven't seen each other in over a year?
Ákos - Oh yes! Our album on the "Rumini on Mirror Island" for children, written for a 2 -hour musical, won the "FONOGRAM" award. This is the most prestigious Hungarian music prize we won for the second time! We are very proud of it! I hope international theater life also notices the piece because I say without bias that it is very fun and it would be worthwhile to do it in other languages!
Alan – Any funny stories about the band over the last year?
Ákos - It would be best to put a live camera on our bus once. Or not? ha-ha
Not such a funny story, but we laughed after the video that I knocked the violin out of Lili's hand at a concert ... during a concert, in the middle of a song .... I didn't notice Lili stepped behind me and as I waved, I knocked the violin out from her hand.Well, she almost beat me with her gaze on the stage. But then somehow I managed to comfort her.
Alan – This is just a light, free conversation, an interview. Out of friendship. So that you won't be forgotten. So we'll probably do another interview in the fall, when everything is done and the news is out. Thanks for the short chat, I'm looking forward to seeing you.
Ákos - Alan, Thank you very much! Hope to meet you as soon as possible!
