Hi I am happy to answer your questions :-)
Seraina, please tell us more about you, your work as a musician, your life, your hobbies.. And tell us more about your guys / musicians.
Most of the time I am making or listening to music and so are the guys. but I also like to do sports and to ride a motorcycle. André‘s (Bass) hobbyare his pets and Mike (drums) likes to ride his motorbike too.
When did your love for music first blossom and are there any musicians who have influenced you?
My Parents were always into music and we were listening often to blues, country and rock music when I was little. My father is playing bass and my mother always loved to sing as well as my sisters and brothers. So I have to say, my whole family is very musically and generally artistically talented. I have so many different influences, favourite bands and artists, if I would list all that, I would need 5 pages (laughs) But the biggest influence to write songs for Dead Venus would be Opeth, Pain of Salvation and some old school Jazz, Blues and Rock musicians. Some of my very first influences were Marilyn Manson, Björk, Christina Aguilera and Disturbed.
Seraina, you are very active in Switzerland and in the past in Germany. Please tell us why, and what is your favorite place in Europe?
As a born swiss girl of course I am very active in Switzerland. I studied music in Germany (Jazz, Rock, Pop). I still have some very good friends there and a band from student days too (Surrilium). I was not traveling a lot in my life and the most of the places so far I discovered while being on tour, so this i not an easy question. But for the moment I can say, I liked London very much and felt like home in a very special way.
Please tell us more about your new album / songs and your plans (tour, video, etc.)
Bird of Paradise is the first album of Dead Venus. Some of the songs are already 6 or 7 years old. The songs are like a collection of experiences with pain, fear, courage and the boundless love of music with themessage: stay true to yourself and don‘t let anyone tell what is possible and what is not. So is the statement of the title track: „It‘s in your heart my friend - in your soul I know you will find the colors of the world“ We released a video clip as well as a lyric video from two songs of the actual album. How do you define your own sound? What inspires you?
This is a question we often encounter. We call our music Progressive Rock, because we combine different influences and don't focus on a certain direction or genre. It's just music without any genre specific limits and that's what we like. Bands like Opeth, Pain of Salvation, Rush, Weather Report, Supertramp, Manfred Mann‘s Earth Band, Screaming Headless Torsos, Living Color, Pink Floyd, Dave Matthews Band and many more...
Seraina, what is the nicest and what is the most attractive German / Switzerland / and Czech Republic place for you?
I studied in Freiburg i.Br. (Germany), so I spent a lot of time there. I have some very nice memories of the city and my friends from there. The most beautiful place in Switzerland for me is Luzern. All the beauty of Switzerland is united there. You can see the mountains, the lake and the great old town at a glance! I was never in Czech Republic but I heard that Prag must be very beautiful.
Please tell us more about your next plans, ideas for the next 6 months.
We hope that we soon can rock some stages again! We will release a cool new video clip soon and we’re also already working on the first demos for a new Dead Venus album so stay tuned ;-)
What is health for you?
When my body is doing well, my mind can think more freely. So I do a better job, I am more creative and more efficient. Therefore, health is very important to me.
Tell us a little bit more about your home area.
I grew up in a more rural area, which was pretty cool. We had a garden where we kids grew our own vegetables and we could eat cherries from the tree. When I visit my family there, we sit in the garden when the weather permits, and talk, eat and drink as if there’s no tomorrow. It's a small place with lots of nature and lovely people. Just wonderful.
What is the most beautiful place for you?
The chair of a grand piano.
