Dark Funeral/Fleshgod Apocalypse/Ex-Deo/Kami No Ikiari
Kami No Ikiari
This French outfit managed to deliver a good crowd warm up and it definitely got a really good response from the crowd, their brand of metalcore meets death metal was on point and the charisma of their front man was something that got my attention, not much his attempts to shower the front row with mouth washed water, but that’s another discussion.
They got an early positive crowd response to a circle pit and a wall of death that was fun to watch at this early stage of the long night ahead.
Their energy on stage was contagious and let the crowd worked out for what was coming next.
Ex Deo
This Canadian band lead by Maurizio Lacono (Kataklysm) was recently resurrected after several years of inactivity. The Roman theme that has always been a central pilar of the band’s lyrics and iconography was again put on stage and what a comeback. I remember seeing them back when they started several times in the USA, but this time, it was a different experience, the power and the heaviness combined with the solemnity of the Roman theme was not just on point, but it set the tone for the rest of the night.
Songs like Imperator, The Rise of Hannibal, I Caligvla and the now iconic Romulus let the crowd thinking even more about the Roman empire than we already do in praxis.
We just hope that we shouldn’t have to wait 7 years or more to experience this Roman death metal outfit come and conquered the city as they did during this show.
Fleshgod Apocalypse
I think that the last time I saw Fleshgod Apocalypse might have been in Amsterdam, NL back in 2018 at that small festival. Since then, the band has changed and evolved into something that can only be described and epic, they finally achieved the right mix of opera a 300+ BPM. Their show is now a bombastic ball dance meets metal masquerade that not only fits their music but their aura on stage is just a downright macabre celebration of metal.
Their show was a trip down the rabbit hole of their discography, from Agony, King, Labyrinth to their newest Opera, we got everything and almost anything.
Their command on stage produced 2 circle pits and a full wall of death that left everyone at the venue asking for more after their stage time. Once again, this band manages to let everyone pick up their jaws from the floor after such exciting set.
Dark Funeral
Finally, the main course of the night was a Swedish dish served raw and bloodied. Dark Funeral, the iconic black metal band from the 2nd wave of black metal commanded by Lord Ahriman delivered a classic and powerful show.
The setlist for this show was carefully curated to please fans from all the band’s eras. We got a lot songs from Where Shadows Forever Reign, We Are the Apocalypse, Secrets of the black arts and Dark Funeral
The crowd was drunk on satanic allegories and dark auras from forgotten times, this show was a testament that the adoration and fervor for old school black metal still lives and it’s present on current generations.
It was a dark and long night that ended up with a full venue and four amazing bands that left everything on stage and delivered amazing sets that everyone at the venue got to enjoyed regardless of what band you were coming to see as it was enough for everyone.
